The Ups and Downs of Home Renovation (and being your own contractor)

The day started off well. The cabinet delivery guys called at 8:17am (well before my office even opens) to say they were at the house. So I threw on some sweats and ran over to meet them. Unfortunatly (for them) they weren't able to pull into the driveway b/c of the height of their truck and the size of our trees. So they ended up wheeling the cabinet boxes up the driveway and in the back door...that is until they discovered we have a yellow jacket nest in the back yard. At that point they just changed the plan and came up the front yard with their dollys and got all the boxes into the living room. As you can see from the picture, there are a lot of boxes! But they tell me they will fit! Then the guys doing the siding showed up at 3:30 (our job is a side job for them) and began work, they cut the Lowesvek from around the windows (yay we can see out again) and got the flashing on, some window flashing and the corners! So then for the downs. The drywall guy wasn't able to finish today which means he'll be back on Monday so that pushed off the cabinet install (scheduled and confirmed for Monday morning) until next Thursday....sad. But the drywall looks great (too bad 75% of it will be covered by cabinets) and I'd rather have the work done correctly than quickly (although both would be nice!)

Here's the siding and materials for siding. It was delivered on schedule yesterday. It doens't look like much but they tell me it will cover the house! It's Hardie Plank for those of you who can't just recognize the stuff at first sight....
